Excise officials seized Rs 8 lakh worth drugs

Hyderabad: Excise officials seized Rs 8 lakh worth of drug stash from a peddler on receiving an information from a person addicted to Alprazolam. According to the officials, the peddler’s usual customers included students, auto drivers and construction workers and he used to smuggle the drug from Karnataka.The drug knocks a user out for six to nine hours, said K. Pavan Kumar, AES, Ranga Reddy Enforcement. 


As many as 8,260 Alprazolam tablets, apart from other contraband brought from Karnataka and Yadgir, were seized from the possession of the  durg pusher identified as P. Rajesh, a resident of Kothapet, police said. 


“He purchased 20,000 tablets, paying Rs 5 a tablet and was initially selling them for between Rs 5 and Rs 10 and later at Rs 50 to Rs 100 to auto drivers,” said Mr Kumar, adding that he usually sells the stash near Big Bazaar, Mansoorabad, and near Kamineni Hospital.
