Hyderabad : Corporators accused Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) of negligence in completing the pending works. Cutting across party lines at the fourth ordinary meeting held at the civic body headquarters, Corporators said several development activities just remained on the paper.

Though the Mayor Bonthu Rammohan tried to counter them by saying, if the Corporators were serious about the development in their respective wards all pending works would have been grounded, but the Corporators said the officials were not showing interest and the works were moving at a snail’s pace.

The meeting began with the grave yards issue, where the Corporators accused the GHMC ground level staff of turning a blind eye to them. The Corporators alleged that the GHMC ground level staff, who were hand in glove with encroachers, have been deliberately ignoring the city grave yards. Replying to their queries GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said the GHMC had already sanctioned Rs 25.40 crore to develop 896 grave yards.

He said the grave yards issue had been facing legal problems. He said the corporation was committed towards the development of grave yards in a phased manner. Not satisfied with his answer Corporators asked the Commissioner to give a time limit for developing the grave yards. Mayor Bonthu Rammohan intervened and asked the Corporators to show the same commitment outside the council hall.

"If you people are serious about development then things would have been different", he said.As many as 19 questions pertaining to development of grave yards, e-libraries, recruitment of sanitary workers,  deficiency of Swachh auto tippers, unauthorised hoardings, cell towers, slaughters houses, nala desilting, lakes, foot paths, allotment of work to the contractors, parking fee and others figured during the meeting.

The Corporators further alleged that there was no co-ordination between the GHMC wings and officials have not been not co-operating with them even after making several representations at circle level, zonal level and head quarters. The Corporators even demanded that Rs 50 lakh per ward for the development activities. The council meeting concluded with the summer contingency plan and special arrangements for Ramzan.
