Hyderabad GHMC Launches Digital System to Track Electronic Assets and Prevent Misuse
Telangana | Written by : Suryaa DeskHyderabad’s Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has rolled out a new digital system to better manage and track its electronic assets. The move, launched on Friday, September 12, is aimed at improving efficiency and stopping misuse of government equipment.
The system will record and monitor all purchases of electronic devices such as CPUs, monitors, cables, laptops, mobile phones, and tablets. These items are often bought by different GHMC departments and distributed by the IT wing to officials depending on their roles.
A recent review found that records of earlier equipment purchases were incomplete, raising concerns that devices may have been misused or gone unaccounted for. To address this gap, the GHMC decided to digitise its inventory management.
With the new platform, every device will be tracked in real time. The system will generate reports on usage and location of assets, making it easier for officials to maintain accountability. It will also help identify when equipment becomes faulty or outdated so that timely repairs or replacements can be arranged.
Officials said the initiative is designed not only to prevent irregularities but also to improve day-to-day functioning of the municipal body. By ensuring that all electronic devices are properly recorded and monitored, the GHMC hopes to streamline its internal operations and reduce losses caused by poor tracking in the past.
The step reflects GHMC’s broader push to modernise its systems with digital tools, making its functioning more transparent and efficient.
